Glaucoma-The silent disease
How can I tell if I have Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is known as "the silent disease". In its early stages, Glaucoma has no symptoms. Over half of the patients I see, do not even know they have the disease.
Regular scheduled eye exams can help find this disease and save your eye before you suffer vision loss.
Glaucoma is a disease that damages your Optic nerve. It happens when fluid builds up on a part of your eye and the pressure of the fluid causes damage to your Optic nerve.
The most common form of Glaucoma is called Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma. This form happens gradually. The eye fluid does not drain-somewhat like a clogged drain. Open-Angle Glaucoma has no pain and causes no vision loss at first. As the disease progresses, within pain, so can the vision loss and that is why regularly scheduled eye exams are an important part of your health regiment.
